This is the first pattern I designed for my shop. It was Ganesh Chaturthi and what would be more auspicious then Ganesha as the first cross stitch pattern.
According to Hindu beliefs, any new event in life should be started by the invocation to Lord Ganesha. Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles, and so he is the god of good beginnings. It is believed that when starting anything in life we should ask Ganesha for his blessings and there shall be no hurdles or obstacles. He is the most beloved of Hindu Gods and before beginning anything a prayer to Ganesha is sure to ensure success.
Ganesha’s image can be gifted to others too, when they start something new. In India we keep an Idol in our new homes, new cars, new workplaces etc. So you could make this pattern not only for good luck and blessings of Lord Ganesha for yourself and your family, but also to gift to friends or family on their new beginnings.
Lord Ganesha is also known as the patron of arts and sciences and the Lord of intellect, learning and wisdom. He is the gentlest of all the Hindu God’s. He is known to be kind and forgiving. Ganesh appears as a gentle, pot-bellied figure with the head of an elephant, four arms, and a broken tusk. He is most often depicted as sitting with one leg folded beneath him.
According to mythology the colour of Lord Ganesha is bright red. And I love the cross stich in red, I am adding another variation in dark Blue for those who would like a darker hue. You could choose any other colour as well. I am sure he would bless you all the same.
